By Mohan Guruswamy - Daily O

How will a nuclear war in South Asia play out? Brigadier (retd) Gurmeet Kanwal discusses the nuclear options should Pakistan reach its red lines quite early in a conflict.

Kanwal is an old friend and we have had umpteen discussions on this subject here and abroad in many conferences, some with Pakistani strategists as well.

Pakistan is Rattled, and That's Evidence of India's Surgical Strike

By Arun Sahgal – Daily O

Questions are being raised on both the veracity and efficacy of India's cross-Line of Control (LoC), surgical strikes undertaken by Indian Special Forces (SF) on the night of September 28-29. The para forces struck at seven or eight terrorist locations across the LoC at distances ranging from 1.5 to 4 kilometres.

There are three different constituencies within the country and abroad raising these doubts. My aim is to address all of them. First is the political constituency; largely the opposition, which sees in the claims an attempted overdrive by the ruling NDA to use these strikes to garner political space on the eve of the crucial state elections, where the stakes are obviously high.

By M Ashraf - Greater Kashmir

After the attack on the Uri Army camp in Kashmir, and the subsequent “Surgical Strikes”, an orchestrated War Hysteria has been created throughout the country which has been given a boost by the corporate media by turning its studios into virtual War Rooms. People have even been advocating the use of nuclear weapons. In fact, some people from the Pakistani side have openly threatened the use of nuclear weapons.

The New Indian Express

India has started constructing underground bunkers along its frontier with Pakistan in Kashmir amid fears the nuclear-armed rivals are preparing for a major escalation in conflict.

The fortification work follows an attack on India's Uri army base on Sept 18, which killed 19 soldiers and provoked huge public anger in India. New Delhi blamed the attack on Pakistan-backed militants and responded by launching "surgical strikes" across the border into the part of Kashmir controlled by Pakistan.

His execution took place at Gazipur District's Kashimpur jail. Ali had been accused of involvement in a "reign of terror" in the city of Chittagong and was found guilty in eight of the 14 charges, including the abduction and killing of teenage freedom fighter Jashim Uddin Ahmed at the Dalim Hotel, one of Al-Badr’s torture cells in Chittagong city. Apart from the hotel, Quasem and his aides ran torture camps in Dowsta Mohammad Panjabee Building and Salma Manzil in Chittagong city.

The Crisis of European Integration and the Challenges for the Left

By Panagiotis Sotiris – The Bullet: Socialist Project

The elephant in the room is now visible to everyone. All the developments of the past years, from the extreme violence and cynicism of the “memoranda of understanding” imposed upon Greece to the decision of the British referendum in favour of Brexit, point to the same direction: the deep crisis of European Integration. It was supposed to be the most advanced example of economic and political integration and the first successful introduction of a single currency in such a broad area. It presented itself as a paragon of stability and human rights. Yet the reality is very different.

German Think Tank Warns of Growing Nuclear War Danger

By Peter Schwarz - World Socialist Web Site

In September, the German pro-government think tank “Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik” (SWP) published a study on the implications of US policy towards Russia and European security. [1] The 28-page document is aimed at a professional audience and is written in political and military jargon that couches the annihilation of millions of human lives in matter-of-fact terms, as if dealing with the solution to a technical problem.

An Update from Germany

Linh Dinh - The Truthseeker

Germany is smaller than California. Within the last two years, it has allowed in roughly two million Muslim refugees and immigrants, all by fiat. Having no voice in this radical demographic change, many Germans are fuming.

Last year, I wrote from Leipzig that Germany has lost its autonomy and sanity. Teaching at the university, I registered that all my students were openly sympathetic towards Muslim refugees, so I suggested they look harder at their government’s complicity in the US’s endless war against Muslims.

2016: The Year We Learned Our Elections were Rigged

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

The above is headline from front page of Daily News but is it true? It is the first time that a candidate of one of the two major parties in US, considered among the world’s oldest modern democracies, has declared that if his opponent wins the election it means it has been rigged and he won’t accept the results.

“Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the president. And the same thing applies to governors, and U.S. senators and congress members.” — Former President Jimmy Carter Quote in Anti Media

By David Swanson

The 2016 Republican presidential primary was rigged. It wasn't rigged by the Republicans, the Democrats, Russians, space aliens, or voters. It was rigged by the owners of television networks who believed that giving one candidate far more coverage than others was good for their ratings. The CEO of CBS Leslie Moonves said of this decision: "It may not be good for America, but it's damn good for CBS." Justifying that choice based on polling gets the chronology backwards, ignores Moonves' actual motivation, and avoids the problem, which is that there ought to be fair coverage for all qualified candidates (and a democratic way to determine who is qualified).

Certainly Not Trump But Hillary With Some More Fantasy

Viewpoint by Jonathan Power - IDN-InDepthNews

I have a fantasy. Donald Trump wins. He goes to Moscow on is first trip as president and gives President Vladimir Putin a bear hug and they go hunting in the forest, Soviet style.

When they emerge they have shot a couple of bears and have had a good lunch laid out for them by acolytes at which they have discussed the matters of the world.

They give a press conference. They have decided to re-start negotiations on major nuclear arms reductions and both say they unilaterally are immediately ridding themselves of a 1000 missiles each.
