CMR
FM 101_3 in association with Bell and State Farm Insurance will be
presenting the Fifth Annual South Asian Festival 2008 at the
International Center on Saturday May 17th and Sunday May 18th.
Starting
at 10 A.M. on both days, festival goers are guaranteed to be wowed for
12 hours straight, that is until close at 10 P.M with over 250
exhibitors, 1000 artists and international headliners.
Malkit
Singh from the UK, Labh Janjua and Chinmayi from Bollywood, Rupinder
Jeet from Punjab and Pakistani heartthrob Abrar-Ul-Haq will set the
stage on fire with their Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu concerts; but that’s
not all the festival has to offer.
No
matter what you’re looking for, South Asian Festival 2008 has it!
Non-stop South Asian and international entertainment, dancing,
fashion, singing, magic, circus acts, martial arts, outdoor rides,
exhibitions of products and services from a vast array of business lines
and a choice of delectable South Asian foods.

The
weekend starts off with a bang. Saturday
includes The MyBindi Visual Arts Gallery and C Zone featuring water
colour paintings, multimedia and photography from leading South Asian
artists. Children between
eight and 18 can also participate in an exhibition displaying
outstanding projects in science, robotics and technology.

The
fun continues with the Anthakshri competition at noon.
Teams of three will battle it out for the top prize with the
assistance of the Sargam music band.

The
festival will be filled with the thunderous, heart-pounding music of
Nagata Shachu the Japanese Taiko drums troupe at 3 P.M.

Beauty,
grace and the best in South Asian fashion take the stage during
the SUHAAG Magazine fashion show both on Saturday at 4 P.M. and
Sunday at 2 P.M. Suhaag Magazine now in its tenth year is North
America's longest running and most read fashion and lifestyle
magazine. The runway will showcase top models, designers, trends
and must have outfits from the subcontinent, adding a a touch of
glamour and sparkle to the weekend long festival. Further

The
day continues with non stop entertainment included Brazilian Drum
and Dance group Axe Capoeira, extraordinary acts including dare
devil fire stunts, acrobatics and high-impact circus style
performances by The Zero Gravity Circus, and outdoor rides all day
long.

The
biggest selling Bhangra artist in the world, Malkit Singh is set to take
the stage Saturday night with favourites, “Tootak Tootak Tootiyan”,
“Gur Nalo Ishq Mita”, and hits from the blockbuster Bend It Like
Beckham. From there, the
“King of Bhangra” Labh Janjua will take the stage and get the crowd on
its feet with hits like, “Soni De Nakhre”, and “O Yaara Dhol Bajake”.
Chinmayi will then perform hits from Bollywood Blockbuster Guru
followed by Rupinder Jeet performing the best in Punjabi folk songs.
Sunday
proves to be just as exciting with illusionist Brian Michaels who promises
to boggle your mind with his high energy, fully interactive performance.
Baby Boyz, the internationally renowned vibrant urban dance troupe will
leave you awestruck.
The
stage will light up once again Sunday night with headliner Abrar-ul-Haq
singing Pakistani pop, Bhangra and Punjabi folk songs.
With songs like “Nach Majajan Nach”, and “Asaan Jana
Mall-O-Mall”, the concert will have fans dancing in their seats.
