TARANE - A Big Bash

on Mother's day

A big bash ‘Tarane’ for Mother’s Day was celebrated as a sold out event on May 11, 2002 at Sangam Banquet Hall, Mississauga.  “South Asians in Ontario”, a non-profit organisation with the support of Sangam Indian Cuisine organized the show.  It was a glittering evening, well attended by almost 300 people and dignitaries.  The guests of honor were Mr. Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament, Mr. Richard Gosling, Race Relations Director, City of Toronto and Mr. Pawan Kumar of Idian Consulate.

The talented team of Mehar Rajan and Shailly Gill of Toronto provided live entertainment as lead singers.  They provided a wonderful balance of hit oldies to the most current smashing goldies of today.  Tariq Mumtaz and Neeraj Handa also supported the event by their talent of singing.  Child artist Shwayta and Jonita added sparkle to the evening with their melodious voices.  The orchestra supported Deepak Gandhi on keyboard and Roofi on drums, joined forces with powerful voice of Mehar and Shailly made almost the whole crowd dance into the late evening.   The ATN (Asian Television Network), a media sponsor, provided  a live coverage of the event.

 

Sponsors and volunteers, whose tireless efforts made the event a success, were presented with appreciation awards and certificates.  Mr. Leon Benoit, MP and Mr. Sam Chopra, President, ‘South Asians in Ontario’ organization, made presentations.   As always, the emcee of the evening was Mrs. Renu Ray of Infinity Broadcasting.

 

Sangam Indian Cuisine was an excellent host, providing a delicious appetizers, dinner buffet and fabulous decor.  The evening ended with a fresh carnation given to all the mothers with generous support of the sponsors.
