Helping professionals with
no Canadian experience GlobalomNet Media Service The
Indo Canadian Chamber of Commerce which is celebrating its Silver
Anniversary wanted to give a helping hand to professionals with no
Canadian experience. They did it well with a no fee event that took place
on May 9 at the Macdonald Block at 900 Bay Street. Called
Succeeding in Canada ... Without Canadian Experience, the event was
attended by more than 120 professionals and professional immigrants were
given concrete strategies to start a business, marketing and job finding
with 3 interactive workshops conducted by experts from the fields.
Tony Chandola , the Chairman of Small and Medium Enterprises of the Indo Canadian Chamber of Commerce, a non profit organisation organised the event.
Tony Chandola is himself an emigrant businessman , with a North American business success story has now for more than 3 years has been CEO and founder-Director Founder of CertX Solutions / Certification Express Ltd - an IT training and solutions business , which enables him to assist talented emigrants.
The
MC of the event was Ms Madhu Varma , a young entrepreneur, working with
www.wordonwork.com. After the introductions, the hall was divided into 3 sections in which each professional answered to the point questions of around 30-40 professionals surrounding him. This helped provide interactive consultation sessions with professionals.
Tony
Chandola provided consultation to his group on aggressive job finding
strategies. He explained the need for not only having user friendly
resumes but also of being able to be flexible and customize their skill
set in resume in accordance with the requirements of the company. For
example a lot of participants were looking for jobs as managers and
directors while getting an entry into an organisation with a particular
technical skill and work experience gained on voluntary basis would be
more achievable. Charles
Donley, from Tradelink, explained to his group the different marketing
techniques in North America and the different facets like evaluating,
financing, marketing and handling the different government departments. Charles
Donley - through
International Trade Advisors- provides marketing and financial advice, and
manages the delivery of trade training and promotional services for
clients in Canada and abroad. He directs Centennial College programmes at
TradeLink Toronto in partnership with the City of Toronto Economic
Development Department. Vikas
Jain, from Ontario Enterprises, explained about the necessary stages and
steps to open their own business including where and how to register to
how to start marketing. Vikas
Jain is a Small Business Advisor for Enterprise Toronto which is part of
the City of Toronto, Economic Development Department. Vikas has been
assisting clients for the past 5 years in starting their business. Main
areas of assistance involved are rules and regulations, business
registrations and licences, Government financing programs, and youth
entrepreneurship programs. Vikas is a graduate from the University of
Toronto in Management and has a Human Resource Degree from Ryerson. Founded in 1977, the ICCC is a non profit, non partisan organizations and its programs foster individual initiatives and the the ability of members to make a significant contribution to the economic cultural and social fabric of Canada.
