MONTREAL - An entertainment spectacle by Karma at the Olympia Theater
on Aug 25 has created a history of sorts when over a thousand fans
thronged in for a delightful evening of great music.
Promoter Kailash Patel’s efforts finally paid off, when the show's
international Indi-pop sensation Sukhbir sent a virtual jolt of
electricity into the crowd, enthralling the audience with an array of
Bhangra numbers ranging from Gal Ban Gayee to Sauda Khara Khara.
Accompanied by several dhol (drum) players, the Dubai-based phenomenon
left the crowd screaming for more in between each song. His last tune
onstage, Ishq, proved to be the ultimate grand finale, as he included
over-the-top histrionics such as stage-jumping and water-dousing.
The ensemble of Canadian and international stars present that night
did not cease to amaze. Men, women, and children of all ages were
spotted laughing, dancing, clapping, and jumping. Complemented by a
set of beautiful and talented dancers, the Montreal-based singing
group Josh wowed their hometown crowd with songs from their hit album,
Main Hoon Tanha.
Another local singer known simply as “Charan G.” proved that he will
soon be a force to be reckoned with in and around the Indian pop music
scene with his intriguing tunes Khaan and Mehfil.
The charming British-Indian songster Sophiya Choudury set the venue
ablaze with her arsenal of hits, including the extremely catchy Habibi.
The stars from Piyush Pandya’s recent hit film American Desi (Deep
Katdare, Purva Bedi, and Kal Penn) collectively made an incredibly
funny and distinguished guest appearance, charming the crowd with an
extremely frivolous skit.
Additional comedy was provided by Toronto-based comedian Russell
Peters, who skillfully intertwined his role as emcee with his
no-holds-barred stand-up act. Sharma sisters of Toronto helped the
organizers in putting up the show. |
