Vir Bharti -
An Active Multifaceted Person Vir
Bharti celebrated his 60th birthday at the banquet hall of the Moghul
Restaurant, on Sunday, September 2, 2001. The party, organized by his sons,
Akhilesh & Vivek, and his daughter, Vandana, was attended by over 70 of his
old friends, family, and colleagues from across Canada and the United States,
some of whom he had not seen in 20 years. Vir
has spent more than half his life in Canada after emigrating from India. He
arrived in Toronto as a Manager with IBM Canada over 33 years ago, accompanied
by his wife, Arun, and son, Akhilesh. After 28 years of success in Vancouver,
Winnipeg and Ottawa, Vir and Arun are in the process of moving back to Toronto.
Today, Vir is currently the President of IMC, Informatics Management Consultants
Limited, a Canadian management consulting company. Vir
has been actively participating in the growth of the computing and
communications industry, particularly in Manitoba. An ex-Director of EIAM, the
Electronics Industry Association of Manitoba, and former Chairman of the
Computer Society of Manitoba, he was also a member of the Advisory Committee to
the Minister of Industry, Trade & Technology in Manitoba and served on the
board of Manitoba Research Council, MRC, for four years. Vir
has a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's degree in
Telecommunications Engineering. A
recognized leader in the field of strategic planning, technology management and
development of enterprise-wide architecture, Vir has been actively involved with
a wide range of opportunities and responsibilities. He has provided management
support in formulating strategies for open systems, information systems
planning, systems integration and development of technology blueprints for
businesses, industries and governments at all three levels. Vir
has also been a very active in providing cultural, social and community support
services in B.C., Manitoba, and Ontario. He is the founding Director and past
Chairman of the Vancouver Kingsway Lions Club, past President and Trustee of the
Hindu Society of Manitoba, and a very active member of the Hindu Temple of
Ottawa-Carleton.
