HOUSE OF COMMONS

CHAMBRE DES COMMUNES

OTTAWA

August 1, 2001

Mr. Suresh Jaura

Publisher & Mg Editor

The South Asian Outlook

Dearest Mr. Jaura,

Please accept my warmest wishes on the occasion of India and Pakistan Independence Day.  This occasion provides an excellent opportunity for the South Asian community to celebrate our cultures, faiths and history and to remember our long and noble heritage.

As a Member of Parliament in Canada, who is of Indian origin I am proud to note that throughout the years, Canada has set an example of tolerance and compassion by opening its borders to people from South Asia and all over the world.  The strength of Canada as a nation is also founded on diversity.  The knitting together of peoples from all over the globe has created a fabric of resilience and beauty.  These strengths have served us well as we build a new and brighter future.

It is my pleasure to note the tremendous achievement and contribution that South Asian Outlook and its editors are making in Canada and across the globe in providing a forum for the promotion of the achievements heralded by South Asians in the fields of art, culture, politics and business.

I wish you all well on your Independence Day celebrations.  May we all have an enjoyable holiday and a successful year.
